Scene 1
The air was nimbler in that cheery spring of Bhubaneswar and her breathing unperturbed. She lay on her back with her hands resting neatly behind her head, earphones plugged in with a slender smile on her lips. Next to her, her sister was engrossed in a book. Their father sat next to them reading the newspaper.
After few minutes, their mother came up to the terrace and bristled about not getting any help from anyone and set down the delicious smelling chai. Both the girls came into prompt attention and leapt at the sight of tea. Their father kept aside the newspaper and joined in. All four of them sat together with steaming cups in their hands. The girl looked up and said, “The sky looks lovely”. The other three looked up and nodded with a smile.
Scene 2
(After few years)
It was April and was quite cold in that part of the United States. She was washing the dishes and singing to herself. Next to her, her sister and brother in law were chopping some vegetables, prepping up dinner.
After a while, she looked out the window and stared at the vast blueness with its pinkish tint. It was exquisite. The blue sky somehow made her remember the smell of chai. She sighed and spoke out loud, “The sky looks lovely”. The other two looked out and nodded with a smile.
A moment. Then they went back to their chores.
